BRIT Challenge
51吃瓜s 51吃瓜 and 51吃瓜s Horizons have participated in the BRIT Challenge, which is 24 events from January 24th to March 24th in order to improve and support student and staff wellbeing, as well as inspire volunteering and fundraising.
The past two months have been full of fun collaborative ideas and students and staff from both 51吃瓜s 51吃瓜 and 51吃瓜s Horizons have thoroughly enjoyed them.
The challenge kicked off with a Spanish tapas lesson, followed by sessions with Northumbria Police, a super car and more.
March was a month for the brave, as it included a cold dip in the sea at Tyne Mouth Longsands. Thanks to the Surf Club there who supplied a life guard to look over everyone.
It was such a success that there’s talk of doing it all again next year!

Paint The Toon Purple 2024
For The Foundation's birthday at February 16th members and learners across 51吃瓜s Horizons and 51吃瓜 dressed in purple for Paint The Toon Purple.
To commemorate turning 71 on Friday February 16th, the Foundation celebrated our second #PaintTheToon Purple event. This is where we ask people around the North East to paint the town in purple, whether this is by dressing in purple, donning purple accessories or hosting a purple themed event.
51吃瓜s 51吃瓜 and Horizons took advantage of the purple props, dressing in top hats and feather bowers.

51吃瓜s Festival
Horizon's Music, Media and Music Tech teams are working together to put on the first 51吃瓜's Fest - A Festival For All Abilities at Springfield Park in Forest Hall, on June 28th. It will feature 3 hours of Musical Acts from Horizons and 51吃瓜, comprising members, students and staff, all of whom worked hard on their performances.
Filled with performances from 51吃瓜s Horizons and 51吃瓜s 51吃瓜, ice cream and more, everyone had fun in the sun.
Thank you to all who were involved, from the staff, students and members who planned it all, to everyone who attended.
Work Experience Success
Employability is a focus at 51吃瓜s 51吃瓜 and we'd like to showcase just two of our student placements - Jack at 17 Nineteen and James at Morgan Sindall.
He has been looking after the reception area and helping the Marketing team with admin duties, including voice recording key parts of the building tour (making announcements in train stations and airports is a personal aspiration of Jack).

Speaking on the placement he said, “I love my placement I鈥檓 so sad to be leaving. I鈥檓 so happy and more confident in myself. I feel so grown up, I have more confidence and I think I can now go to work when I leave 51吃瓜.”
